With the weather continuing to warm up outside, it is important to make sure your AC system is working as it should. At C&S Subaru, we have the training and experience necessary to help you take care of your car's AC system. While we certainly want to help you find the right car, we also want you to take care of the car you have! Your AC system has to work well, and we have a few tips that you should follow to help you take care of your air conditioner.
1. Run Your Fan at the Coldest Setting When Your Run It
If you feel like you need to turn on the air conditioner, make sure you turn the temperature all the way down. You should not try to turn on the heat and then turn on the AC unit as a way to fine-tune the temperature of the car. This is simply going to put more stress on the internal components of your air conditioner. Instead, go ahead and turn the AC unit all the way down. This will actually take pressure off of the internal components of your AC unit, reducing your chances of having to deal with problems with your AC unit down the road.
2. Turn On the Defroster From Time To Time
Next, you need to make sure that you run the defroster from time to time as well. While you might not feel like you need the defroster, make sure you run once per week or so. The defroster is important for removing the moisture from the internal components of your AC unit. That way, you can dry it out. You do not want the moisture to build up inside of your AC unit. Otherwise, mold and mildew could start to grow. You do not want to have mold spores moving through your air conditioner or cabin, so keep the AC unit dry with the defroster.
3. Change the Air Filters in Your AC Unit
In addition, you need to make sure that you change your air filters from time to time. There are air filters in your engine, cabin, and AC unit that are responsible for removing dust and debris from the air before the air gets to its final destination. If you do not change your air filters, they can clogged. Then, your AC unit will need to work harder to pull air into the system. This can place more stress on the AC unit, causing it to burn out more quickly. You can protect your air conditioner by changing the air filters on time.
